My Motorcycle Road Trip Check List

I usually go by the "the plan is that there is no plan" principle and try to be spontaneous. For the 6 week Europe trip we didn't have much of a plan on where to go either.

However, we had to be prepared in terms of bikes, riding gear and all other accessories and gadgets to have a safe, fun and exciting trip and to record and share our experience with all of you.

Here is my Road Trip Packing List:


For the bike

  • luggage (saddlebags, top cases, backrest bags, tank bags, ROK straps)
  • repair
    • Cruztools, Tire repair kit, fuel line, fuses
  • horns, lights
  • safety: check tires, break pads, do service, Tire pressure sensor, tire pump, tire gauge
  • crash guards, frame sliders
  • comfort: heated grips, cruise control
  • biker cover, locks, alarms
  • cleaning supplies, chain lube


For the rider and passenger
  • helmet, tinted visor, bandana, Schampa,  sunglasses, ear plugs
  • jacket, cooling vest, heated vest
  • gloves (rain and heat), heated gloves
  • belt, back protector
  • riding pants
  • rain gear, booties
  • riding boots, cruiser clips
  • riding undergarments
  • hydration (cup holder or system)
  • sun screen, lip balm
  • emergency medical kit
  • tent, sleeping bag & other camping gear
  • games, entertainment

Navigation/Electronics

  • maps, ride guides, recommendations
  • GPS
  • radar detector, Trapster.com
  • cell phone
  • digital cameras, chargers
  • tripods, gorilla pod

  • Uwe, I forgot the most important thing of all.  Cork screw and bottle opener.  Always carry one incase I buy a bottle of red to drink at the campsite or in the room.  Phew, How could i forget to mention that???

  • Uwe must have forgotten to add the snacks! He had Cliff bars, energy beans, Mountain house dehydrated foods, and 3 flavors of beef jerky.

  • Truck to follow behind carrying it all, water proof covers for the bags, if you've got one' and a  small spray bottle of screen/lense cleaner. Very handy for de-bugging.  Keep enjoying Uwe, you rotten so and so!!

  • That's a pretty all incusive check list Uwe! In addition to your items, Water and Snacks (Jerky & PowerBars) are two things I don't leave home without.
