Tire Shine

I was at a bike show the other day and saw a few entrants applying various tire shine products onto their tires.  I asked them if they were concerned about their safety with slick tires.  Some said they do it all the time and that it dries up after a few miles.  Others said that it's only a worry if it gets on the tread.  Hmmm...I guess they don't lean into their turns!  During a recent shopping trip, I went to the auto section and looked at all the tire shine products.  ALL said "Not for use on cycle tires where slipperiness may be hazardous".  No one has ever neeed to tell me this was a bad idea!  Okay, I did use Armor All on my seat...ONCE!  If any of you riders are thinking of doing this...DON'T!  Having your ride slip out from under you in the middle of a turn is not a good life lesson.  Just my opinion and thoughts.  Am I way off on this one?  Ride safe...

A friend of mine got a new bike, and he wants to keep the shine on it,even the tires, told him not to,but he didn't listen,he ended up in ER for some shiny forehead!Frown

  • I try to keep the slippery stuff away from the bike.  I am too old to play slip-and-slide--bones don't heal as fast these days! Laughing
