over 3 1/2 years ago I was in a motorcycle...
Been living in Eagle Butte all my life. I have been married for 29 years to one of best women you can find and I'm a proud parent of 2 great kids. When I turned 18 I joined both the Eagle Butte Vol Fire Department and the Teton Ambulance Service. I was with the Ambulance Service for 22 years before having to give it up and retired from it, but I'm still with the Fire Department. Been working as a Police Officer for the City of Eagle Butte since 1980 and have been the Chief of Police for 15 years.
The end of August 2007 I had an accident on my son's bike (side swipped a pickup going around a corner west of Rapid City,SD) and busted up my leg and all the bones in the foot. Four surgeries later and $90,000.00 the leg they say is repaired, but I am still working to get it back in condition to hold up my 1500 again. It has been a long recovery, but I'm getting the bike fixed back up with $500.00 in parts and it looks as good as new. I still have no idea what happened to cause the accident. The lady and three kids in the pickup were not injured but sure shook up. She saw the bike drifting across the center line so she was slowing down and pulling over. I did impact the pickup in the middle of her lane and then kept it up right until the front brake grabbed and it tosses my over the handle bars and I landed about 10 feet in front of the bike and there we laid. some of the other guys said that coming throught the valleys there were some wind gust hitting them, but I don't know. I got set for the corner, saw the pickup coming, everything was fine, and then I see a flash of the door of the pickup and bang. The video clip I have here at the end has the new clip with me and the bike in it. In my photos there is photos of the bike and my leg. So are a little strong. The wife was a great support and was with me at the Hospital for the 8 day stay. You just don't relize how helpless you are when you are laid up and cann't do anything by your self, even the simple thing take a great deal of effort. Hopping soon to be back of the road as MAN do I MISS IT. Three years later and I am back on the road driving again. Little touchy to start with but getting more confertiblly at it.
PS: the helmet I was wearing at the time did save my mellon. The forehead part has a nice crack in it now. It hangs on my wall as a reminder.
