Today, everyone is Irish!
In the spring of 08', I bought a slighly used 06' Honda VTX Retro 1300 (6000KM). At 55 yreas old (then), it had been some 40 years since I last rode more than a couple miles, and then it was on a Suzuki 120. As you might imagine, I was at least a bit taken back by almost everything about this big V-twin cruiser (big to me). Now I just can't get enough! Living just 60 miles from the U.S. border (49th) and a bit more than that from the mountains, opportunities for beautiful day rides are endless. We have countless miles of twisty, winding roads through the foothills & mountains, just a few minutes away.
2010 - Over the past couple years I have had the good fortune to meet up with other CC members in my travels, and have developed some great friendships, one-on-one as well as on-line. I feel accomplished in that I may have influenced at least a couple of my friends to get back into motorcycles and riding. My wife is slowly letting down her guard and now, not only looks forward to coming out with me for short rides, but is looking forward to, and even planning longer rides. I have lamented how I would enjoy the company and having someone to share the experiences of my travels. This makes me pretty happy (just when I had the perfect solo ride).
2011 - So here we are starting out a brand new year and I'll be starting out with a new-to-me 07' VTX 1800Tourer. I am so pleased with the way my 1300 turned out, and really, I didn't have a clue what I was doing when I started adding accessories. I'm looking at this bike as a blank canvas with only 5700 miles on it and it is completely, bare bones stock. I have a vision, we'll see how it develops.
As much as I loved the 1300, I decided that I/we needed something a bit stronger for longer hauls with the two of us plus luggage on board. After several rides around town and a couple short jaunts 60-90 miles out & back, the missus says she'd like to ride to Seattle, maybe Las Vegas or even Northern California. So as they say, "Oh Happy Day"! Patience has paid off. Now I'm holding out for the day she wants her own bike .....
