  • Bike fell over and won't start

Embarrasing to say the least.  I was putting new pipes on my VTX 1800r 2002 and as I was lifting the bike it slid off the jack and fell over.  After I muscled it up I tried to start it and no go.  When I turned on the key I usually hear the fuel pump priming but now I do not.  Read my service book and it talks about a device that when the bike tips at a certain angle it will keep the bike from starting.  Anyone have this problem and so what did you do to fix.  I am trying not to take my baby to dealer but may ahve to if I cannot fix it.

    Hey Pizzaman,

Start with the easy, and not picking on ya, I never use my cut off switch, make sure u did not turn it off when picking it up. I did some work on the jack once, I tried starting many times and nothing, I had the kick up then down, then up again, would not start till I dropped kickstand back down

Another rather obscure happening relates to the battery.  When the bike goes onto it's side the sediment in the battery all moves to that side and shorts the plates. Battery won't work.  Try seeing what happens when you use a booster pack in place of the battery or swap batteries.

There may be  a simple solution, is the kill switch on or off ? Check your kick stand neutral switch and check your battery connections. Apologize and explain to the bike it will not happen again !

Thank you all for the feedback, and yes I did check the kill switch several times.  Other suggestions have not been pursued but I will definately be checking the other possible problems that I have not checked.
