I like my Bell Helmet.  I would recommend a full face helmet.  If you have seen the number of bugs that I have had to wash off my face shield, you would want one too!  LOL

I have 3 different helmets- a Bell Bandito for local rides on nice warm days, a THH 3/4 for colder days and an AFX modular full face for highway-longer rides, rainy days and cold.  The Flip face of the AFX allows me to use my hydration systm where my old regular full face did not

I agree with VTXSoul...this is where you need to spend the $$.  However,  if your speedo is on the tank...a full face takes your eyes off the road with a downward tilt of your head to see it.  I use a full-face for the protection but...in Texas, even with the best helmet ventilation, it's a hot head AND in I-45 traffic the "eyes off the road" is not an option!   A bike here is a speed bump on wheels!  As someone else mentioned,  don't buy on the first helmet shopping trip out until you try different mfg for the best fit for YOU!

One that Fits!!!  Check out this Helmet Fitment Tip of the Week

Other than fit, I prefer the following:

    • Full Face
    • DOT and Snell
    • Lots of Vents
    • Plush Interior
I love my ICON, HJC, Shoei, and Arai Helmet... Icon being my favorite.

The one that fits the best!!!   I have an oval head and find HJC & Arai full face helmets fit me well. I'm very happy with my HJC, it has good ventalation yet Quiet and warm when vents are closed. If $$ wasn't an issue I would buy the Arai because of the DOT & SNELL ratings. And they have some killer designs! My half helmet is a Fulmer Ranger and it fits so well I can bend over with my helmet unbuckled and it won't fall off. I live in Mo. USA and we have a mandatory helmet law so I've always worn one. I hope this helps & good hunting.

I can't tell you which brand is best because I have not tried them all.  But I can tell you what works for me.  Most of the time I wear a Shoei full face helmet.  It's comfortable and quiet.  But when the temperatures get above 85°F the full face helmet gets hot, so that's when I switch to a Scorpion open face helmet for slow rides to the store.  The Scorpion has a retractable visor which comes in handy when the sun is in my eyes.  The open helmet is much cooler, but it is also a lot louder.  If I could only afford one helmet I would go with the full face helmet.  I saw a full face helmet that had been through a bad accident with a deer.  The chin guard looked as if a bear had been chewing on it.  Fortunately the helmet spared the rider from any head injuries.  He would have lost his jaw if not for that helmet.
