Internet connection has been sparse and we spent all day in the saddle. I'm waiting to get new tires put on my Kawasaki before we take off again tomorrow to head to the North Cape. We have over 80 Gigabytes of photos and videos already and would love to share with all of you. This is my personal "motorcycle trip check list" to make sure I didn't forgot anything important. Turns out that the alternator is fried, it only puts out 8V. Here is the kicker: I bought the bike in 2002 with a 3 year factory warranty, bought a 4 year extended warranty on top of that. That one expired 6/9/09, not even a week after I dropped it off for service. The repair is now covered [image] I don't buy extended warranties for my other bikes anymore. The problem is that you can't operate the iphone touch screen with a motorcycle glove (and I don't ride without gloves). I finally found a little touch pen that does the magic. We rented a Fat Boy and took the "Road to Hana". That was on Memorial Day, too many freaking cars, it rained quite a bit and at the end the Harley broke down and couldn't make it up the crater that day.   Fast forward 3 years later: our friends Todd and Katarina decided to get married on Maui - sweet. 85 degrees weather ever day, no more than 5 minutes of light rain - great. Renting a 2008 blue Harley Road King - freaking awesome!!! On the first afternoon we took off on a trip around the north coast on the Honoapillani Hwy (don't ask me how to pronounce that name ...). Not a lot of people take that road because it's one lane for a good stretch and dangerous because it has no guard rails and steep drops. That didn't stop us from a little adventure [image] The next day I took the road to Hana by myself, Tra had to prepare for the wedding. There was not a lot of traffic and no rain, just awesome. I wanted to take a loop all around the island but unfortunatelly the road was closed south of Hana for a bridge repair. Same twisty road back, not bad either [image] Saturday was the day of the wedding and we didn't ride. Sunday we rode up to the crater. That was freaking amazing. The road was like a race track for a good part. The top is more than 10,000ft high and it feels like you are riding in the clouds. We didn't ride on the south of the island on Hwy 31 this time. But we did 3 years ago, it's a cool road too riding through the lava fields. It's a popular road for Sport bike riders. I had to pay the bill for the new Spyder rear tire and front rims. The local DMV (department of motor vehicles) also had an issue because the previous owner registered it out of State. Luckily Tra has cop buddies that can sign the paperwork and save me the trip to DMV. Kregg at Speed Sports told us about a couple who is riding the world for the last 6 years. They are currently waiting on getting their BMW engines rebuilt after 180,000 miles!!! They have a pretty cool website, http://www.2ridetheworld.com. This coming Saturday they will give a multimedia presentation at the BMW dealer in Livermore. Tra has something planned for that day so I'll go to the presentation on Friday evening in Mountain View. 6 years on the road, that's pretty hard core! For the last 3 months I'm having this "itch" to go out on a "Big Ride" again. Last week the CC management team gave me their support and basically told me to "hit the road". Tracy is supportive as well! Outside of work I'm not much of a planner at all. In fact my personal credo has always been "the plan is that there is no plan". So for this trip I'm open to go almost anywhere (except Mexico doesn't sound like a good place to go at the moment, sorry Cehszar [image]). I'll definitely want to explore the US and Canada and then ride around in Europe. My German buddy Machine just called and told me he couldn't sleep the last 3 nights thinking about going for a big ride. He's in. It didn't take any effort to get Kyle rallied for a trip either, our fulfillment manager Al is thinking about joining for a week or 2 as well.  We would probably start some time in June. And I know a place to buy all the riding gear [image] Question: Where should we go first. What are the "must see" stops along the way. When is it the best time to ride in Canada, maybe Alaska, Spain, Scandinavia, Britain, Ireland, Iceland?
