First bike was an '81 Kawasaki 650CSR (replaced the KZ650). Had that bike about 6 years or so and rode with a friend the first year or so until he moved. After that, didn't put very many miles on it over the next 5 years.
I started to looking at getting another bike in early 2005. I originally started by looking at smaller cruisers. Volusia 800, Shadow, etc. A friend was storing another friends sports bike, a 1999 Honda CBR 600 F4, and had been for some time. I had told him, if he ever decided to sell, to let me know. Well, that time came in July, and he was asking over $1K less then the going rate at the time. So I went down to Houston the next day and picked it up.
I put 30K miles on that bike, including many trips to AR, track days, local weekend rides, etc over the course of just over 2 years. I ended up coming into some cash, so I decided to buy a new bike in Oct 2007. I picked up a new 2007 CBR600RR and in the following spring I sold the F4. The F4 was a very comfortable bike in comparison.
Let me jump back a bit... in Aug 2006, I also picked up a Suzuki DR-Z400E, which is a 4-stroke dirt bike. It had already been dual-sported (made street legal), which was perfect for the type of riding I would do with it. This has been a great and fun bike over the years. In July of 2007, I converted the bike to a Supermoto. Now the bike REALLY became fun! Quite the hooligan bike as a matter of fact!
Okay... forward to July 2009. I still have the 600RR and the DRZ. My wife has never ridden on the back of any of my bikes. She just doesn't feel safe and doesn't have any interest. After talking to her some more about it... I came to realize that alot of it was the type of bike. Even after showing her most sport touring bikes, nothing. She would however entertain a Goldwing (no thanks), or certain cruisers. So I began my hunt for the right cruiser. For various reasons, I settled on a Honda VTX 1300. I preferred the look of the C model, so that is what I looked for. Found some decent deals, and missed out on 2 of them (3 strikes and you are out!). Well, #3 came up eventually, although it was an S model (retro with spokes). After going immediately over to check out the bike, I left with it.
So I now own a 2003 Honda VTX-1300S for 2-up riding with my wife. She's been on it a few times, and is still getting acclimated, but so far so good! Now I just need to try and hold myself back on buying stuff for the bike, as I can't usually leave a vehicle alone
