In a few days we're off on a touring trip for 2 weeks. We will be travelling at a leisurely pace taking in all the scenery and stopping to visit and stay at various towns along the trip.
There are many of you out there who are experienced touring riders. I'm after some pointers on the subject from those with experience. We have a pair of saddlebags each (hubby and I, on our respective bikes) and hubby will be carrying a top bag on the back pack rack. We have some Andy Strapz to basically bungy anything we need to the back of the bike.
Tonight we did a 'practice pack' to see what will fit into the bags as this is all new to us. Deciding how many pairs of pants do we really need to take, etc. Also trying to put things we will need most in the top bag. Got a first aid kit, sunscreen, eye drops, camera of course, etc. We're prepared with a few bike spares too such as globes, spare levers etc which will go in my bike's drop box.
Not sure if I should take more than one bike jacket. My DriRider jacket will be windproof and waterproof for the elements, and it does have zips I can open for air flow. Planning not to take the liner as it's bulky and we are headed into summer here (supposedly). I figure I can layer long sleeve tops if I'm colder. Do I bother with summer jacket or not? Currently the weather forecast has rain and hot days, so I don't know what the weather will be like for the full two weeks away. What do you do?
What else should we know before we go? E.g. Are there specific items that we should not even bother taking? Are there items which are a definite MUST HAVE? Are there items we should keep very accessible (i.e. in the top bag rather than the saddlebags), etc?
I'm not sure if this subject has already been discussed, but as someone who's never toured before, I'm very interested in hearing your feedback!!
Thanks, Dim :)

Good morning. Faith without patience is one-legged! Many of us have lots of FAITH but lack PATIENCE. Trust me, (YOU NEED BOTH!) “Great things happen on Gods timing,, not ours.” :-)
I learnt about this awhile ago and though others might find it useful/interesting as well.
A good way to check if your tyres (tires) are getting close to replacement is to use the Tread Wear Indicator (TWI for short).
The TWI is usually a raised section of rubber in between the tread of the tyre. As the tyre wears down the height of the TWI gets closer to being flush with the rolling surface of the tyre. When they are really close to being flush, it is probably time to start shopping for a new tyre.
Hopefully this pic comes out okay! The TWI is highlighted in the red circle in the picture
I find that the Bureau of Meteorology is a great resource for planning rides. Very good radar section for keeping an eye on storm fronts and rain activity!
cheers!

So what's the deal with these Community Points? Do they add up to something on the site?
cheers,
Spock
Good morning to all!
I just wanted to take a minute to express how happy I am to be back here in the states, and to have reliable Internet back at my fingertips. I missed you all so much... I really cherish your friendships, and if I named you all one by one... hell, I might as well just open the member list, "copy and paste your user names" in the "To" field as I have had the great opportunity of having personal conversations with most all of you... and I count you all among my bestest of friends.
And this my friends is what "Community" is all about!
Now this Community is not "Uwe's Community" it is not "my (manybikes) community" it is not "Cruiser Customizing's Community".... This is OUR Community! A person or a company can not make up a community, we can just provide the tools and resources that "allow or facilitate" us (all of us!) to come together from across the globe to hang out, rub virtual shoulders, share stories, photos, video, our lives, and from time to time... to meet in person solidifying our friendships, taking this "community" to the next level.
I must say that I have been saddened to come back to the community to see several of you posting things that would not be appropriate for "the whole world to see." Even more saddening is the unfriendly banter back and forth in a public setting where the conversation is not positive, friendly, or helpful in any way shape or form.
We should be all about helping one another, supporting one another, and assisting one another have a great time enriching our motorcycle passion here on this site.
Our Community is ours place to come and play, a place where we should not feel uncomfortable, embarrassed, attacked, etc... This community is an open forum accessible by people of all ages, religious affiliations, ethnicity, etc... For this reason Naked People, vulgar remarks, profanity, etc... are not permitted. Please read the real simple guidelins here: No No's!
Community Responsibility is the title of this story or blog post... so what am I getting at?
1. When posting: Please refrain from posing naked, lewd, or offensive items.
2. In this form I can not control what gets posted, nor do I want to... as we all have our own individual likes, dislikes, and reasons we visit this community. Your (all of our) Responsibility... If any of you see naked or offensive posts, or anything which makes you uncomfortable I need your help... Pleas FLAG the photo, story, blog, video, or whatever it is that has caused these feelings. We will then review all flagged items and remove them as need be. If you feel strongly about a particular post, please flag the item, and email me directly kyle@cruisercustomizing.com.
This is our house! This is a place that I love to visit! It brings joy to me when I come here and feel the love and camaraderie of bikers (as gruff and "Rar...Rar...Rarr" as we can be...) helping, sharing, and learning from one another.
If you don't like it -- Flag It!

Hello from France.
This is the logo we use when we send out mail on MSN so that people know its from us, It is also this one with EBAY tacked on to it for our sales on EBAY using Englissh as my sellers name.
Keep the grey coming long and slow
When you click on "MyBike", have you review an accessory that you bought in CC, or other place, and then find out that it is not included in your accessories? Or what it is more strange, you had a number of accesories and then it began to decreased by 1, 2 or 3?
Well, if you do then you are not alone. This began to happened to me since I became a member of CC Comunity but I didn't report it because I bought the item before I knew about CC. Now that I have bought several accessories on CC, I began to write my reviews and help the community by shareing my experiences. The review is safe, but, the list of "My Accessories" does not reflect the number of items I have. Therefore I began to wonder, Does the CC website also do Magic Acts with the disappearing accessories?
If you have a similar expericen or some ideas to where abouts, the feel free to write.
IN MY GARAGE
Like others I jumped on the bandwagon about what was wrong with CC the last week or so. After reading the other comments all I can really say is CC, I apoligize.
This site is free, folks, free. We meet other bikers, trade jokes(some really bad) and share stories, upgrades and that dreaded occurence, oh, oh, what did I do wrong. There is a family feeling here, jokes and jibes sent to each other, good hearted fun stuff and sometimes a smack on the wrist for going too far. It's free.
CC exists because someone had one hell of an idea to bring bikers of all types under one umbrella. Harley folks actually talk to us rice burner owners, talk down mind you but they do acknowledge our existance. If the truth be told, they simply don't like us cause our tools don't fit their bikes.
When all is said and done, keeping this site operating is a tough job, putting up with some of us members, tough job. We all should take the time to appreciate the work that goes into keeping this site going and us happy, happy, happy. Maybe instead of a key chain CC could sub a slightly mind altering drug to keep us all warm and fuzzy.
Again, IT"S FREE. Enjoy and think of this site like your bike, some days it just doesn't want to go.
Being a fairly new member to the site I thought I would try and put together some ideas I found makes the time spent on the site more enjoyable. I know when I first joined the site a I was a bit overwhelmed with all the features of the site and really had no idea what to do first. Hopefully, this will assist the new members getting started.
First off, I highly reccomend doing a short write up in your profile section telling the community about you. Nothing major is required just spend a minute or two introducing yourself maybe where you are from, what kind of bike you ride, how long you have been riding, etc. You can alway go back and change this at a later time. Having a little posted about you really breaks the ice, so to speak with the rest of the community.
Making Friends: Do not be afraid to make some friends. The easiest way to make friends is when ever someone leaves you a comment in the members comment section click on their name and on their profile page on the left side click on the Add to Friends Link. There you have it. You just made a new friend. If you would like to be friends with someone who has not left you a comment just go to their profile and click on the Add to Friends Link. You become a fan of that individual until they accept your friend request.
Here are a couple must reads:
Posting a Picture: As soon as possible get a picture up of you or your bike and post a picture on your profile. Members really enjoy looking other members pictures. A picture puts a name with a face and is the perfect way to show off your pride and joy ride. A picture also can show what accesories you have added to your bike and may even give fellow community members ideas for their bike.
Guidance for pictures:
Videos: See above for pictures. Just remember to be patient when uploading. It takes some time to up load a video and then it takes some time before it can be viewed.
Music: Let everyone know what your favorite songs are. Uploading music is easy to do just follow the prompts and make sure it is in the proper format. i.e. mp3 etc.
Blog/Story Post: Feel free to add a post. Blog post can be about everything from motorcycles to the weather. Just keep them clean.
Message Board:
Questions: At one time or another we all have questions that need to have answered. The message board is the perfect place to post and answer questions. Be sure to look over the headings and post your question in the the appropriate catagory. You would not want to post a question about your clutch under the Questions for the IT team.
In general the message board is a great place to ask questions, give advice, check up on up coming rallies and events, post and read a few jokes, introduce yourself, etc. One can do or find just about anything on the message boards.
This should be enough to get one started on the site. This is a great site and there are a lot of great people on here. Do not be afraid to ask someone for help if needed. If you do not want to ask the question where everyone can see what you asked use the e-mail system.
If I have missed or left out anything that needs to be included in this post just add it to the comments and I will edit this post with your input.
Let's make this a living document and add/change as needed.
The most important thing to do on the site is HAVE FUN!
Ride Safe
