A ride in the rain to the Oregon coast. Exhilarating!
The twelve inch windshield made a difference. Went for a short ride yesterday and the high was 50 degrees. Lowers work better than the oem windshield and it was bearable w/o the leather chaps, any cooler and the chaps are on. Keeps the wind off my hands so when it does get cold the heavy gloves should be great.
I am enjoying this bike, more than any I have had so I don't want the riding to end. Next add either a crash bar or a new rider seat w/backrest. Posting a profile picture with the Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing on the bike.
I purchased my 2006 VTX1800 Retro in the summer of 2008, about one month after my wife passed away. We each had a motorcycle at the time; hers was a Honda 250 Rebel, and mine was a Honda Shadow Sabre 1100. I sold both bikes and combined the cash, plus a little more, and bought my VTX.
I absolutely love this bike! Sure, there are quicker and faster bikes on the market, but this bike has power to last for days. It feels like it will pull me up the side of a cliff. I have put over 15,000 miles on it since I bought it.
UPDATES:
Since I purchased the bike, I have upgraded the following:
Got the Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing installed. Got the lower wind deflectors and they make it work. The fairing is a bit smaller than I anticipated and I am sending back the 9" shield for a 12". The three pouch leather storage was kind of a pain to get on but the rest of it was pretty easy. Can't wait to get the 12" shield on to see if it directs air over my head. The 9" lets the bugs hit my forehead right above the glasses. It does keep the wind from going up the sleeves of my jacket and off my hands. The lowers keep the wind from coming up from the bottom.
It looks pretty good too. Will post more when I get the shields changed out.
Sergio is the reason I like recommend Corbin to everyone. He goes the extra mile to see that his customers are happy with the Corbin products. My bike is now featured on their home page. Click on the 5th white dot for a 30 second slide show of the SNOTHOG. I have their heated dual saddle with a V-rail, back rest and also a Fleetliner fairing and saddlebags. These items played a big part in winning trophies all the bike shows I've entered. This shot is at their Ormond Beach Store.
It has been a while but I rode today without a windshield. Wow, I had forgot. Laid back seating position of the strat made it different than I remembered. Last time was on a 1983 Honda Nighthawk 550. That was a fun bike, kinda miss it, NOT.
Reason I was riding without the windshield was the Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing was to be delivered today but the UPS guy didn't see the note on the closed office door to deliver to the house. I will get the delivery tomorrow but had the whole day today to get it put on. I had already taken off the windshield and mounts because the memphis fairing has its own mounting system. Can't wait to get it on and give it a try. Hope it can extend my riding season a little bit. It should keep the wind off my hands a little more and with the lower deflectors I hope it keeps the wind from coming up into my body and head.
I will definitely have it on by the weekend and will let everybody know. Till then we have rain in the forecast. Keep dry everyone!!!

Cold today. It is getting late in the season. Got out the thinsulate leather chaps for the first time this year and they made it bearable. Gonna have to do a fairing instead of the narrow windshield. Memphis Shades batwing fairing looks like a money saving option and it still looks good. Hopefully it comes in quick so I can get it on before next weekend. Hopefully this extends the riding season a little bit more.
