hi,first of all i want to say im sorry for badmouthing the cruiser site when i kept getting knocked off,and was kidding about who is the it guy running it,ha
i think this site is really nice, and the people on here are so great, and have such beautifull bikes! not like some biker sites iv been on,where you have all these wiseguys thinking they know it all! i always would help anyone i can and i dont care if they have a moped. i wrote a couple of blogs and people actually read them,ha so here goes it again!
i would like to tell all the bikers things i learned lately, probly most know things im gonna say,but maybe this might help someone out there. most people that have brand new bikes dont have to worry about these things, but may in the future. i would tell anyone that plans to do work on their bike to get a shop manual and a torque wrench, almost all the nuts and bolts on your bike have torque values, some are critical and some not as much. a for instance, the rear axel, even if you just adj the chain,if you over tighten it,which i used to do,cause i was afraid my wheel would fall off,so i would sock it home,ha but it will burn your bearnings out quick if its too tight! and other parts that are alloy, you will put more stress on them by overtighting. like the forks and risers, which if they break while your doing 80 or so,could give you a problem,ha a lot of people buy used bikes, they look like new,but if they were laying somewhere for a few years, you schould change all the fluids,i had a bike i sold to my brother,my last bike i had,he used it for a while and then it was in a garage for 15 years. i told him i was thinking of getting another bike to mess around with,i asked him what he did with the bike,he said i still have, and you can have it if you want, but you will naver get it running. i got it running in 2 days, pouring gas into the carb with a funnel and hose, but couldnt use it cause i had to get a fuel pump,i got it on ebay, took 3 days,ha i had problems with the clutch and front brake,i drained the fluid,it looked like mud,and cleaned the resovoirs. the cables were all gummed up too,and the fork oil was mud also. so just because the bike looks good doesnt mean everythings ok you dont want to go on the road and get stuck in the boondocks with a broken cable,or your trottle gets stuck wide open going around a turn,ha its worth it to put a little 3 in 1 oil on all the moving parts every now and then. and if you have a chain, clean it good with diesel fuel, then lube and adj it,i used to use that spray on lube,i didnt like it,my bike calls for 90 weight gear oil,and lube every 300 miles. i was riding with a friend of mine, and he started skidding out of control,i cant belive he didnt fall, when i stopped,i said whats wrong, and he said i dont know,i looked and his chain fell off and wrapped around the sproket,i tryed to put it back on and the links wouldnt even bend,i said your lucky you didnt get killed,he lubbed it after that,ha
another thing i just learned is if you replace plugs in your car or bike,if the heads are alloy, you schould use antiseize grease and boot grease on the wires, the plugs almost get welded in,and the wires break when you have to pull them off next time. i always say,i learn something new everyday! so take a little time and lube all the moving parts and check the air in your tires, and dont just lube your chain, clean and lube it once in a while.
cause you dont want to get stuck in the boonies,or get killed cause you didnt oil a cable. i know this is a long blog, but maybe it will help someone who is new to bikes! oh by the way,i still my torque wrench,i bought from sears 30 years, its a cheapo beam one, they still have them,it works pretty good,so if you dont want to spend a lot of money on one, check them out. so for the people just starting to work on their bikes, buy some good tools, junk ones wont last,i know and 1 more thing,a impact driver,i used to strip all the phillips heads that were really tight,1 wack with the impact driver, and no problem, but switch to allen heads,(chrome of course)wiitch are better,ha and a set of easy outs too,my friend has a yam warrior,he broke his exhaust bolts and has 2 vice grips holding it on,ha when i get some time im gonna fix it for him,ha so do the work on your bike,it makes you feel good when your done, and ride safe!

It can only get better RIGHT? Woke up to our last at home kid having a 2 hr. delay for school (fog). didnt look that bad, just got out of town Pretty dark at 6am. Well I passed a semi as the fog was getting ever thicker. I'm tooling along behind an SUV. then comes Bambi and Moma. The little deer spun around just as the suv was braking and turning left to avoid. The SUV JUST MISSED its head, then Moma deer thought she could run behind SUV. Problem was I was there. I got it slowed up and could have actually pet her. DID NOT HAVE TIME. That semi was bearing down on me. Tires chirping, I'm trying all I can to get out of the way ( I WAS IN 5TH GEAR) trying for all she's worth I keep dropping gears looking for one that will get me moving. Finally like a rocket I am gone. Fog was so thick he could not have seen me till he was on me. Thank god I was still on the brake when he came up on me.
So then I want to be in front of everyone. I pass the SUV. I keep seeing something in front of me. I cant make it out till I get right up on it. A pick -up with NO tail lights, Fog so thick, I could not see a glow of its head lights in front of it till I was on it. I PASS, then I keep thinking of this poor semi and suv coming up on this truck. I decided at the four way stop I would let them know. TOTAL DARK AND FOG SO THICK I COULD HARDLY MAKE OUT THE GAS STATION ON OTHER CORNER. I hurry and pop it in neutral, throw down the kick stand and hurry back to the truck that just pulled up behind me...... THIS got me to thinking, I'm not a small guy, I'm approaching a truck in the dark in the fog. I'm gonna get shot
I walk up to the truck small blonde female, Sh*t, I asked her to roll down her window, In a VERY scared mousey voice she says, yesssss, I told her that she has NO running lights at all in back, turn signals and brake are working (I could see them while talking to her) Told her she needs SOMEONE to fix it before she gets plowed into, She then sounds better when she thanked me. This is Indiana, more have conceal carry permits than not. All I could think about was this poor scared lady, probably with the barrel of a .357 pointed at the door while I'm talking to her. Thankfully if she was packing I made it to work safely and am now borring everyone else with my morning. Kept me awake on the way in(sometimes that is an issue)
Man the roads around Dallas, TX are just not bike rider friendly. And I don't mean the other people. The roads around it. Highway 635 has grooves in it. Which is one of the major roads that travels around Dallas. It also has lines that cut across lanes and if your front tire hits it wrong it jars your entire bike, could take down a less experienced rider. Grooves on another road that cut through town call Northwest Highway. These grooves are a real pain for smaller bikes. Larger bikes it's not that bad but it still can make even the most experienced ride uneasy.
Highway 30 has a movable HOV lane and the lanes are narrow. This makes most drives nervous and unsure of their driving next to the wall. They always drive like they are unsure if they might hit the wall. And the road curves back and forth.
There is major potholes in most of the roads and when they do fix these potholes they never fix them right. Always a temp. fix. From everything like a hump because they didn't pack the black top, to plates of metal for a short term fix.
For a major Metroplex that is worried about smog and polution it doesn't help make it easy for other options of transportation. Hell the buses spit out smoke. What makes that a better solution?
Just wanted to give you a heads up if you travel this way. And also to blow off a little steam.
today i got the phone call i never wanted to get, my daughter called to say she had been hit while riding her motorcycle. thank god she was only bruised up and skinned up, she was wearing helmet and riding jacket and chaps and boots. her bike faired pretty good too but still is gonna be down for a few weeks while the parts come in to fix it. she had a person turn left in front of her, he never turned his signal on and witnesses said he accelerated as he came to the intersection, like he was trying to beat her. she skidded and ended up laying it down and her front tire hit the rear of his car, and he just kepted driving, never slowed down. right now im mad as hell and frustrated!!! why dont these car drivers see us on bikes??? i mean my daughter has a pink full face helmet with a pink mohawk on it and her riding jacket is bright pink, how in the world does somebody not see that??? i still cant understand that, i mean i was hit back in july by a fella turning left in front of me too and i wondered how he could miss seeing someone who is 275 pounds on a big motorcycle, hell im bigger than some cars lol. are car drivers just that stupid??? i am really starting to wonder. how do we get the message across to those idiots that they better start paying more attention to driving than talking on their cell phones or changing the radio station??? well i guess my ranting is over, and if your reading this i'll let ya get on with your day and i will say another thank you to the fella upstairs that it wasn't worse . keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down and watch out for them stupid idiots that dont see us.
