This is one of my earliest bikes, a GS850 Suzuki, four cylinder "dressed out" touring bike. For some reason, even though this was extremely similar to the Honda Gold Wing at the time, it was never a really popular bike in the biker's community. I owned this wonderful bike for about three years and sold it to what was then my best friend. He promptly laid the bike down in the middle of an intersection, and eventually blew the engine. The last I heard, he had it torn out as a basket case in his little work shop to "repair it". You know how that goes! Since this was my only transportation at all during that time ... and I was going through a divorce and really couldn't afford another mode of transportation ... I was running up between 12 to 15 THOUSAND miles on her every year! She had an AM/FM Stereo radio with a, (ready for it?), 8 TRACK PLAYER built in! LOL! Gawd I loved that machine ... and I would eat poo-poo to have the opportunity to get an exact duplicate today! The bike was so easy to work on ... and so SO dependable! One of the best bikes I ever owned up to that time!

Все началось с того, что один знакомый, который часто бывает в Америке пообещал, что может помочь купить и привезти мне кое-что для моего мотоцикла. Понимая, что распыляться в такой внезапно появившейся и весьма шаткой возможности не стоит, я задумался о самом существенном, что в принципе стоит изменить в моем мотоцикле.
Вначале был комфорт...
Первым делом я подумал о седле. То, что стоковое оказалось не лучше, чем на моем предыдущем 650-м Yamaha Drag Star, я понял на первой же сотне километров. Та же классическая лодочка, в которой все время сползаешь вперед. Это заставляет сопротивляться и упираться, в результате, копчиком, который очень скоро начинает ныть. Рассмотрев фото с мустанговским сидением, которое сконструировано более эргономично, т.е. имеет обратный угол наклона, имеет большую плоскую длину (что позволяет перемещаясь в посадке вперед и назад, давать отдохнуть затекшим частям тела) и имеет спинку, упираясь в которую уменьшается нагрузка на ягодицы, я понял, что это покупка №1. Забегая вперед, скажу, что с этим я не ошибся. Комфорт и мягкость - потрясающая. Ощущение, как будто починили дороги. Ямы и ухабы "съедаются" на 70%.
Я предпочитаю поездки по принципу - чем дальше, тем лучше. Следовательно, все, что может сделать вождение более комфортным, попало в список №1. А именно:
Кюрякинские ручки Iso Grips уже купил мой друг и спутник мо поездкам Сергей, и поделился опытом, что за счет конструкции и большего диаметра, рука меньше устает, обхватывая их.
Подножки водительские полноразмерные ( в моем случае Cobra Floorboards) в отличие от стоковых "педалей" позволяют ногам перемещаться, соответственно не затекать.
Дуги. Кто не клал мотоцикл даже на ровном месте - тот не ездил. Это нужно, это красиво. И на них прекрасно располагаются круизерские подножки. Еще одно положение для ног, которые, повторюсь, затекают.
Резина Metzeller. На этом сайте у нее самый высокий рейтинг. Я поверил и купил. То, что хорошая резина и безопасность - синонимы, знаю по своему многолетнему (и особенно многозимнему) опыту автомобилиста.
Ручки, за которые держится пассажир вместо талии (или горла, что бывает) водителя - гениальное в своей простоте изобретение от Hondaline. (К-стати, другие OEM и aftermarket производители такого не делают)
Все эти необходимые вещи, после недолгих поисков в интернете, я нашел здесь, на cruisercustomizing.com.
Пытаясь сравнивать ассортимент товаров и представительство участников с другими похожими сайтами, я пришел к выводу, что этот лучший в Штатах. А, поскольку круизеры улучшают в основном именно а Америке, значит - лучший в мире. Это искренняя реклама.
Пока шел первый заказ (а шел он порядка двух месяцев), я уже нашел другой способ заказывать и получать. Оказалось, у нас в Киеве, есть отличные ребята, которые возят быстро - в среднем 2-3 недели, и цены у них умеренные, а общаться с ними проще, чем со знакомыми, далекими от мотоувлечения, потому как - профессионалы.
Вот тут мне, как говорится, "карта и пошла".
Вторым девизом после комфорта пошла красота. 70% комментариев продуктов ленивыми пользователями сайта звучат как "More Chrome". Это правда. Маслом кашу не испортишь, хромом - мотоцикл. Переборщить невозможно. Больше 100% поверхностей все равно не покроешь.
И началось...
Поскольку я решил собрать все доступное для моего любимца, что выпускает американский мотопром, кроме бесполезного и некрасивого, задача была непростая. Список, который сформировался после в введения в строке "that fit" моей модели мотоцикла, был огромен. Я прошел его дважды, распечатывая все позиции, которые меня заинтересовали. Потом с напечатанными листочками, легче ориентироваться, составлять из них подшивки по принципу: нужно в первую очередь, во вторую, третью...
Очень замечатьльная идея с "Featured bike", где фото "заряженного" мотоцикла интерактивно. Ты щелкаешь по части картинки и всплывает окно со ссылкой и описанием данной детали. Но, к сожалению, мало моделей представлено в таком формате. Но помогает в любом случае понять, что бывает.
Также хорошо делать поиск по типу детали или элемента тюнинга: программы выдаст все варианты разных производителей, а выбирать, что лучше, можно, заглядывая в рейтинг. Случаймым или "заказным" здесь рейтинг не бывает, как мне кажется. Можно верить.
Читая отзывы о деталях, во-первых можно выудить и полезную информацию среди многочисленных и бесполезных комментариев типа: nicе, cool и т.д., а во-вторых, нажав на ссылку автора отзыва, можно поискать в его фотографиях, как эта деталь выглядит уже установленная.
Также среди пользователей есть персонажи, которые подобно мне, наворотили на свой байк все возможное. Ссылку на фото таких безумцев нужно сразу сохранить. Потом будет удобно неоднократно просматривать фото, когда найдешь что-то толковое и будешь томиться, представляя, как бы все это смотрелось вместе с другим тюнингом.
Еще полезно ориентироваться в выборе, опираясь на списки "My Accessoires" и "My Wish list" тех, кто имеет такой же байк и многое уже выбрал. Я для себя нашел одного такого парня. Все время пользовался его фотками. Писал ему, когда в чем-то сомневался или чего-то не знал, как называется. Но он ни разу мне не ответил. Так же, в общем, и с попытками получить ответ от тех же Кюрякинцев, Кобровцев, техподдержки ДАННОГО сайта. Эти, конечно, отвечают, но, то ли ленность мышления, то ли количество запросов им мешает, ответы эти слишком однозначные и чаще отрицательные, мол "мы такого не имеем, не выпускаем, это к вашему мотоциклу не подойдет". - "А если я чуть доработаю, чуть изменю, модернизирую? Я умею..." - "Нет."
Вот, еще не забыв, как все происходило, и не остыв к великому делу "кастомизации всей страны", перед лицом своих товарищей, торжественно клянусь: всем, кто обратится ко мне с просьбой помочь, посоветовать выбрать или "как примастырить" - не откажу. В пику иным товарищам. Пусть знают наших...

Everything started with a friend of mine who is a frequent traveler to the US and had stated that he could help to get a particular accessories for my motorcycle from the US. I understood that I should not try to cover everything having this sudden and groggy opportunity. I started to think of the most essential accessories, which will customize and upgrade my motorcycles as the basic essentials.
At first, I thought of comfort...
The first thing that came to mind was a seat. The first hundred miles original stock seat did not show signs of any improvement of comfort than my previous Yamaha Drag Star 650 seat. It was the similar classic “boat”, in which you droop forward all the time. As a result, this will cause a discomfort in the tailbone, that will cause a nagging pain. After I had studied the images of the Mustang seat, with better ergonomic construction and opposite angle of lean. With characteristics of longer and flat surface (allowing the rider to move position themselves either the forward or back area enabling the rider to shift bodyweight and relieve pressure of being seated in one particular position to long), it is also equipped with the back rest, that when the rider leans against it, the backrest will relief the weight load on the buttocks. I made this seat to be my first priority. I have to attest that this was a wise decision, the comfort and flexibility to shift my body weight is awesome. The fact that almost 70% of the roads are completely dilapidated and need of repair with potholes, that can also cause additional stress and discomfort in riding this was another reason as to make a comfortable seat my priority. Later I found that most of minor road holes are passed without even noticing them.
I personally prefer long cruising rides, “the longer the better”.
So, in essence the other accessories that enhance the long cruising ride and make it all that more comfortable. This is “a must buy list“.
Those accessories are as follows:
Kuryakyn Iso Grips, already purchased by another of my friends and ride companion Sergey. He stated that due to design and increased diameter of the grips, your arm is not getting tired as fast.
Full size foot pegs (Cobra Floorboards in my case) apart from stock "pedals" leave space for moving feet, thus preventing swelling.
Highway bars. “If you had never piled his bike, has not experienced biking to the fullest”. It is an absolute necessity. Cruiser foot pegs compliment the highway bars perfectly, providing you with another option for the positioning of your legs, as stated earlier will cause swelling occasionally on long rides.
Metzeller tires, with the highest rating on the online website catalog. So I had put trust by the rating indicated and decided to purchase them. In comparison with other similar websites that offer a product range of accessories of OEM and aftermarket accessories, I derived to the conclusion, that this website site is the most complete and of the of the best in the US. While I was waiting for the first order I place to arrive (that took about two months), I’ve discovered another way of ordering and receiving faster. In Kiev, there are some representative resellers, that deliver the orders rather quickly with an average of 2-3 weeks, with moderate prices. Placing orders with these representative resellers is now allot easier, rather than asking other friends and fellows, I am concerned, have no idea of biking. The representative resellers are truly professionals.
At this point now I had a good point of reference.
After getting more comfortable I had started to improve the appearance and dress up my cruiser. Most web users that are lazy, as much as 70% go for the "More chrome" comments. Which to a certain extent is true. Chrome dressing does make a bike glitter. You cannot overdress it. As a matter of fact you cannot chrome more than 100% of the surface.
Now this is how it started...
As I decided to purchase the essentials and the accessories available for accessorizing a well dressed up motorcycle. Mostly what I can obtain from the US manufacturers, for exception of useless junk, deemed as a complicated task. “The Must List” for my bike turned out to be extensive. I had to revise it twice, printing out all items, that got me hooked . Later, it was much easier to navigate in the several files I had created of the 1st accessories to buy”, “second phase of the accessorizing”, and finally the “still required, but later on the final stages of accessorizing”…
A great concept is a "Featured Bike" with an interactive image of a fully loaded dressed up and accessorized bike. You click on some part of the accessory image and the window with that part and a description, with references will pop up in a new window. Unfortunately only just a few models had this interactive option. However this interactive enables you to envision how your bike can look like.
It’s also a convenience to search the site by part or the custom accessory: the interactive program does provide you with the options of different manufacturers. After your selection, you can read the comments and ratings.
Rating at this site are by the authors or promoter. I firmly believe, it’s confident.
While reading the comments on parts, you can also get some useful information by filtering on or off options, such as, multiple and worthless clutter: nicе, cool, etc. And as for the second option, by clicking on the comment author link, the images shown will display how the author or commentator has accessorized his bike.
In the community blogs, you can find people like me, who have installed everything that can be installed on their bikes. Link to pictures of customized bikes must be saved. It will be handy and ideal to surf through their images later, when you finding an accessory that can fit to your bike and you try to imagine how it would look together with other accessories already installed on your bike.
Also, when making decision it’s convenient to use "My Accessories" and "My Wish list" of those that have the same bike you have, additionally individuals whom have purchased some of those parts or accessories already. I’ve found one guy with a bike that was similar and in particular, I used these images quite often as reference pictures a lot. When I doubted something or was not quite knowledgeable I was sending messages to him with my questions. Unfortunately I never got any reply from him.
Actually it is the same case with Kuryakyn, Cobra, and the technical support department of THIS WEB SITE. In the sake of the truth I have to admit, that from time to time the technical support department replies. Only that is very lethargic and slow, perhaps due to the fact of slow thinking or due to the other numerous inquiries and questions, their replies were not quite clear and sometimes negative. Along the line of something like “we don’t have it”, “we don’t manufacture it”, “it will not fit your motorcycle”.
I asked one time "What if I change it a bit, refine, modernize? Can I do it..." – Their answer a flat out and dry "No"
By the way, while I still remember how everything was in the process and striving with passion for the "ultimate customization", with the support of my comrades. I swear not to downplay or criticize those seeking assistance from me in making the right pick or click or in trying to fix or “merge” or finding the right part in the buying process, of the quest for the Ultimate Customization of motorcycles.
That in spite of all this and others. We are and will be the greatest...

Whilst out on my first cruise for spring, I stopped off in Ballan at the workshop of the mechanic {a New Zealander, but I wont hold that against him lol} who is rebuilding my VN800. He has the girl up on a stand, stripped down and well on the way to being back on the road.
The new front forks are in place and she is sitting a lot lower than previously as the damaged ones were quite a bit longer. Must admit she looks a lot meaner with her new low profile.
He is running all the cables through the new handlebars and down through the headpiece, which should tidy up the front and give her a much cleaner look. The original headlight was too badly damaged to repair, the OEM replacement was available but at an outrageous price, so he has put a HD headlight in its place with a custom made mounting bracket.
The indicators have all been changed and replaced with aftermarket ones which are about a third of the size of the OEM ones, this in itself has provided him with a challenge as he now has to make up some chrome inserts, drill through and attach the indicators prior to pop rivetting them in place.
The original tail light assembly is being replaced with a much smaller "Tombstone" style one, also adding a modulating brake unit as well, which also changes the operation of the indicators by turning them into running lights. Still have to organise a replacement seat, although the existing one is repairable I have my heart set on a single touring type lol.
The new wheels are now on with the whitewall tyres and asides from the tank and the new front guard {still undecided whether or not to put the front guard on, as she certainly looks tough without it} all that is required is a set of driver pegs. Once the front guard is painted and the tank is painted with the Wolf mural it will only take him one day to put her all back together and on the road again {think there was a song about that lol}.
All in all I was more than happy with the work that he has done to her and now can't wait for the graphic artist to finish her part in the process. Then I will be really spoilt for choice when deciding which girl to take out for a cruise.
