It can only get better RIGHT? Woke up to our last at home kid having a 2 hr. delay for school (fog). didnt look that bad, just got out of town Pretty dark at 6am. Well I passed a semi as the fog was getting ever thicker. I'm tooling along behind an SUV. then comes Bambi and Moma. The little deer spun around just as the suv was braking and turning left to avoid. The SUV JUST MISSED its head, then Moma deer thought she could run behind SUV. Problem was I was there. I got it slowed up and could have actually pet her. DID NOT HAVE TIME. That semi was bearing down on me. Tires chirping, I'm trying all I can to get out of the way ( I WAS IN 5TH GEAR) trying for all she's worth I keep dropping gears looking for one that will get me moving. Finally like a rocket I am gone. Fog was so thick he could not have seen me till he was on me. Thank god I was still on the brake when he came up on me.
So then I want to be in front of everyone. I pass the SUV. I keep seeing something in front of me. I cant make it out till I get right up on it. A pick -up with NO tail lights, Fog so thick, I could not see a glow of its head lights in front of it till I was on it. I PASS, then I keep thinking of this poor semi and suv coming up on this truck. I decided at the four way stop I would let them know. TOTAL DARK AND FOG SO THICK I COULD HARDLY MAKE OUT THE GAS STATION ON OTHER CORNER. I hurry and pop it in neutral, throw down the kick stand and hurry back to the truck that just pulled up behind me...... THIS got me to thinking, I'm not a small guy, I'm approaching a truck in the dark in the fog. I'm gonna get shot
I walk up to the truck small blonde female, Sh*t, I asked her to roll down her window, In a VERY scared mousey voice she says, yesssss, I told her that she has NO running lights at all in back, turn signals and brake are working (I could see them while talking to her) Told her she needs SOMEONE to fix it before she gets plowed into, She then sounds better when she thanked me. This is Indiana, more have conceal carry permits than not. All I could think about was this poor scared lady, probably with the barrel of a .357 pointed at the door while I'm talking to her. Thankfully if she was packing I made it to work safely and am now borring everyone else with my morning. Kept me awake on the way in(sometimes that is an issue)
Had one of those calls that no parent ever wants to receive!!
At around 4pm this afternoon, a VicRoads Incident Controller rang me at work to inform me that my Daughter's car had been involved in a three car collision and it was sandwiched between a van and a Semi on the Westgate Bridge on-ramp. This had occurred as she was coming home from work this afternoon.
Apparently Samantha had to break to avoid a car in front of her that had been cut off by a truck, she and the other driver managed to pull up in time to avoid a collision when another semi {obviously not paying attention to what was happening in front of him} did not slow down and plowed into the back of her car. The car is a write off, but fortunately Samantha and the other female driver escaped major injuries. Just whiplash and bruising from the seat belt.
Once I was over the initial shock of the call and ascertaining that she was ok just badly shaken up, I saddled up and went straight in to be there for her. It was a very quick trip in to the city from Hoppers Crossing and I am pretty sure that in getting there as fast as I did I broke more than a few road rules lol.
This summer I when solo from Vancouver Island BC Canada to New York City. With my wifes blessing, as she got tied down to work at the last moment and couldn't go. Well that sucked but she said we had planned it for sometime and wanted me to go, so yeah I yes OK Baby!!! I can't write everything I did but to start I will say I never met so many nice poeple on one trip in my life. I started by going to Sturgis Rally for 3 days, Met a fellow rider on the way, cool dude, we partied in Sturgis and he had to hit the road home, back to Washington. Sturgis what can I say, don't believe anything anybody tells you about Sturgis, just go and experiance it for your self that is the best way to do it just go!!WOW to much fun. I then headed for Niagra Falls, going through Chicago, then Detroit, up between the lakes and to a friends Daughters place her and her hubby lived about 1 hour from the falls so that was great. I stayed there for 2 days and then on to New York and New Jersey I want to see the Statue of Liberty, empire state building, time square ground zero and anything else I could see, It was quite a trip in and out on a bike come to think of it never seen any bikes on the roads in or out. I was told by many poeple as I crossed the states, that I was nuts to go in to New York on a Bike. ( I was pulling a trailer too). So I got to see the green lady as they call her and the empire state building ( from a distance) I tried to get into the city a couple of times only to end up back at the toll both to pay again and again. So I when't through down town New Jersey got to the Liberty park, got my pictures, and had to run for it, as there was a thunder and lighting storm hitting just after I got there. So soaked to the ass before I could get my rain gear on, couldn't us the GPS, to find my way out, 3 to 5 lanes of rush hour traffic, rain bouncing off the road about a foot in the air, did I meantion the roads were very bad like 6 inch deep potholes, semi trucks throwing waves of water over me, can't see through my windshield, and then the toll guy told me I was going the wrong way.....Hmmm. So I evenully found my way out 2 hours riding in the rain, and all I could do was laugh, because was the hell It was an adventure, So then I went to Columbus Ohio to the Motorcycle hall of fame, which was pretty cool, and Jack Nickcolaus golf museum ( I'm a golfer too) then it was off to Minasota to go watch Tiger and the boys at the PGA Championships in Chaska at Hazeltine GC, the poeple traffic at the golf course was worse than the traffic out of New Jersey. I then headed for home stopping again in Sturgis for the night, then Winthrope, and through the North Cascades, and back to canada. Well this is a very short version of my trip but all I can say is it was a blast a total blast. It was all about the ride verything else was just a bonus. The eastern sea board this past summer was just riddled with rain for most of the summer, and believe it or not I only got rained on in New Jesrey and in Sturgis once, for the whole trip unbelieveable. The rest of the trip was nice and hot.. beautiful. Oh yes never had any problems with the bike or the trailer, Ran like a top, I love my Yamaha, and I must say I met a lot of Harley riders, that really liked the style of the midnight Venture, I had a lot of compliments on my bike, also won Best Japanese bike at our toy run this year, or 25th anniversary run about 13 hundred bikes to cool. So thanks for reading I hope it was as good for you as the trip was for me. keep the rubber side down and safe riding to all.

Here are the two ways the guys ride their colours, just the two semi circles on there own or with the cartoon wolf's head in the middle

I sadly note that the awesome Rocket 3 is missing, for the most part, from this discussion. Having just purchased one this week to accompany my semi custom VTX I find this lack to be troubling. Any suggestions?
I put the red reflective tape they use on semi trailers between the pad and insert to make the design stand out and give more visibility from the rear at night. It looks good in the sunlight too. Was overcast and under 40 foot trees when I snapped this pic.
My husband has an unnatural attraction to chrome. If it shines or sparkles, he wants it, and it usually ends up on his bike. His affinity for gleaming things also entices him into decisions I would like to think he normally wouldn’t consider.
The former owner of my bike gave me a chrome air stack he purchased for the bike. I had no desire to use it, and it sat in its little box forgotten in the shed. It was forgotten until my husband and I cleaned the shed last weekend.
When Curtis found the stack, it was like he won the lotto. He couldn’t wait to get it on the bike. Unfortunately, the foam filter and screws for the stack were missing. I contacted the vendor trying to get the proper filter, but received no reply to my e-mail. I mentioned the fact that I could not find the replacement filter to my husband, but he apparently didn’t hear me.
This morning Curtis decided to ride into the city with me for his bike’s scheduled service. He grabs something black and somewhat triangular in shape. It turns out to be the old plastic air intake cover for his bike. He said he created his own foam filter for the stack. I thought he left the old air filter in place as well so I was not terribly concerned.
We turned onto the highway and everything was fine until we were going up a hill and I passed a semi with a loaded trailer. Curtis was lagging way behind me. It is not unusual for him to stop and tend to something and then catch back up with me. When I did not see him in my rear view mirror, it occurred to me that he might have to change out the air stack with the original OEM air cover. I had to get to work, so I kept on going.
I got to work and called him. By then, he was in the truck and on the way to borrow a trailer to take the bike the rest of the way to the city. Then he tells me that he took the original air filter out of the bike. In its place, he put a piece of screen, a rag in the inner chamber of the stack, and left his home-made foam filter in place in the outer chamber of the stack.
I knew what was coming next couldn’t be good! I think I quit breathing momentarily as he said, “it sucked everything right into the bike: screen, rag, and foam.” Believe me, I wanted to cry. Even a little old girl knows not to do something like that. When I asked him why he didn’t leave the old filter in place he said it was dirty. This is the same man who keeps cleaning the truck’s air filter with his air compressor for as long as possible to keep from buying a new one.
Fortunately, the bike’s engine was not damaged. I could not resist calling him later today to ask him if the service manager kept a straight face when he told him what he did. I will have to mosey into the Victory dealership soon to find out what Curtis actually told them. The latest Curtcapade has to be on their wall of shame!
This is from a dash cam taken in Carson City NV, last year. If the wind is strong enough to blow a truck over just think what it can do to a Motorcycle.
Ride Safe.
