BRP introduced the new Can-Am Spyder RT roadster in response to specific consumer demand for a touring platform, the company said in a statement. The 2010 Can-Am Spyder roadster lineup now includes the Spyder RS (roadster sport) and the Spyder RT (roadster touring) models.
According to BRP, the Can-Am Spyder RT roadster will be powered by a Rotax 991 engine with electronic throttle control optimized for touring. The RT features the same BOSCH-engineered vehicle stability system as found in the Spyder RS roadster, which includes anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control systems.
The company also said they’re introducing an industry-first optional RT622 trailer package, providing an additional 622 liters of storage, designed specifically for the Spyder RT roadster and compatible with the vehicle’s stability system.
I stopped over to Uwe's place last night and gave love to each of his precious machines. While I was there I took a gander at some of the day 1 through day 10 photos... we all are in for a TREAT when Uwe gets back and can share is hundreds of gigs of fabulous memories with us! Here's to you Uwe!
The bike are all doing great!

So, Reader's Digest version, changed rear tire, wrong torque specs, snapped off stud, stud backordered and Yamaha can't give a ship date. Took old stud (no, I mean the thing that held the tire on) down to dealers and they found a Honda stud that looked like it would work. It did, so I now have yet another different part on my bike. It is now a Yamahonda-Davidson! So, we are now current. Took her out for a spin last evening after securing the rear tire and she ran great. I had used Dyna Beads when I changed the tire as I didn't want to mess with traditional balancing. I was somewhat skeptical, but so far, so good! I pulled out of the driveway and I could feel the rear end bucking like an old bronco. So, I increased speed. I got it up to about 50 and spun out those beads and she smoothed right out! After that initial little incident, everytime I stopped and started had no issues or anything. I would suspect that changing the tire, got a little bit of soapy water inside and after a week it dried and clumped the beads. Once the beads broke loose and spun out it was great! Now mind you I am not really giving a hearty recommendation yet, but from all appearances, the initial impression is surprisingly favorable. One more vote for black magic! LOL! Now a week ago Uwe said he had some Dyna-Beads to go in the Spyder front wheel. I'll be waiting for him to get that done and post his impressions of them in the the front! Uwe???
Ride safe

Tra and I went for a small 70 mile loop today:
Tra was on the Spyder and I rode the Aprilia Caponord. Redwood Rd, Pinehurst Rd, Bear Creek Rd, Alhambra Valley Rd - there was hardly any traffic, we had a relaxed ride. It's awesome to see Tra as a new rider get more and more confident. Pretty soon I'll have trouble keeping up with her
Here's another one of the Spyders from the CAN-AM demo this morning.
This is the Spyder I took out - it was "automatic" - took me about 15 minutes to really get used to it. I found that it wanted to chuck me off when I cornered but getting down lower like on a sports bike alleviated that problem. I didn't really get to give it much of a run - gear changes were wierd but I got used to it quickly. All the brakes being controlled by the right foot pedal was interesting too - but plenty of stopping power and ABS too. If you get a chance, take one out for a spin - you won't regret it!
I was riding back from breakfast in South Melbourne this morning when I noticed a bunch of Spyders heading back to the carpark by the beach. Seems there was a test ride day happening so I signed up for a spin.
Trace and I went for a quick ride to Speed-sports yesterday. I had to pay the bill for the new Spyder rear tire and front rims. The local DMV (department of motor vehicles) also had an issue because the previous owner registered it out of State. Luckily Tra has cop buddies that can sign the paperwork and save me the trip to DMV.
Kregg at Speed Sports told us about a couple who is riding the world for the last 6 years. They are currently waiting on getting their BMW engines rebuilt after 180,000 miles!!!
They have a pretty cool website, http://www.2ridetheworld.com. This coming Saturday they will give a multimedia presentation at the BMW dealer in Livermore. Tra has something planned for that day so I'll go to the presentation on Friday evening in Mountain View.
6 years on the road, that's pretty hard core!
Check out their trip map:
Saturday I was at a software conference in the South Bay. I decided to take the "long way home" by riding Calaveras Road on the Spyder, what a blast!!! Recorded with my new POV camera
Tracy is now going on solo rides on the Spyder
I got cut off again - this time with a twist:
He was in a large pickup truck pulling a long trailer, probably a horse trailer. He was was in the right lane of "Southfront Rd" turning right. I was on my Spyder in the middle lane, turning right as well.
That shouldn't have been a problem, he should have stayed in the right lane (yellow line). However, he decided to move into my left lane, leaving me inches to whip by between his truck and the curb to the left of me.
At the next stop light he even wanted to lecture me that my lane wasn't a turning lane. We almost had a $100 bet going if the middle lane was a turning lane or not. I take that road daily and was sure it was a turning lane.
Anyway, I stayed cool, he calmed down and we just agreed that he didn't want to kill me and I didn't want to get killed. He drove on ...
... I flipped around to double check. You can see from the pictures (even from the satellite picture) that the middle lane is a turning lane, however the sign at the intersection is so washed out that it's hard to notice.
I would have had a hard time claiming the $100 prize and "being right" doesn't help you much when you are on a motorcycle.
The moral of this story for me is the same as always: you can't trust those cagers, always assume they don't see you and they will pull in your lane. I'll bet $100 on that one
It had been a while since my last trip up Mt. Diablo! What a ride!
Saturday morning I called Uwe to see what was on his list... low and behold... Tracers wanted to take the Spyder for a ride up Mt. Diablo! Sweet I thought, so I dressed and headed over to Uwe's for the ride.
Tracers was chomping at the bit...
The weather as a BEAUTIFUL with bright blue skies with full sun and temperatures in the mid 70's.
When we left the house, Uwe was on the Victory Vision.
After just a couple miles we needed to loop back to the house to get Tracers a more motorcycle friendly pair of boots. At that time, Uwe decided to Jump on the Aprillia dirt bike for a more "nimble ride" up the mountain.
After the boot change, we headed to the base of the mountain and began the accent. KUDOS to Tracy! Up to this point Tracy has been on some not so twisty roads and as I followed her...
She was doing GREAT! Everything she was doing looked perfect. She would break and downshift into the corner... and then accelerate out of the corner. I was IMPRESSED!
When it came to the bicycles on the road (there were tons of them!) she gave them respect allowing them the room they needed / wanted and she passed only when safe for all parties. It was fun watching the faces of the cyclists as the spyder passed... it was as if they were looking at something from another planet! it did not help I was following on the BMW Adventure... another "odd" looking machine.
As we reached the top I shot this video:
As usual, the Spyder was the HOT TOPIC of conversation at the top of the mountain. Motorcyclists, pedestrians, hikers, and cyclists all took a second look...
All of the motorcyclists at the top were friendly and conversing with one another.
After a good break at the top, we headed back down into the valley...
What a great ride Tracy and Uwe!
Thanks!
