New Members Guide to the Site

I was asked to post this again in the story section to make it easier to fine so here it is.
New members Guide from a New Member

Being a fairly new member to the site I thought I would try and put together some ideas I found makes the time spent on the site more enjoyable. I know when I first joined the site a I was a bit overwhelmed with all the features of the site and really had no idea what to do first. Hopefully, this will assist the new members getting started.
First off, I highly reccomend doing a short write up in your profile section telling the community about you. Nothing major is required just spend a minute or two introducing yourself maybe where you are from, what kind of bike you ride, how long you have been riding, etc. You can alway go back and change this at a later time. Having a little posted about you really breaks the ice, so to speak with the rest of the community.
Making Friends: Do not be afraid to make some friends. The easiest way to make friends is when ever someone leaves you a comment in the members comment section click on their name and on their profile page on the left side click on the Add to Friends Link. There you have it. You just made a new friend. If you would like to be friends with someone who has not left you a comment just go to their profile and click on the Add to Friends Link. You become a fan of that individual until they accept your friend request.
Here are a couple must reads:
Site No No's
Code Of Conduct
Posting a Picture: As soon as possible get a picture up of you or your bike and post a picture on your profile. Members really enjoy looking other members pictures. A picture puts a name with a face and is the perfect way to show off your pride and joy ride. A picture also can show what accesories you have added to your bike and may even give fellow community members ideas for their bike.
Guidance for pictures:

Use the add photo link on your My Home Page
Always insert information is the description area. This allows the community to know what they are loooking at. Examples: Make, Model, and year of your bike. If posting a scenic picture tell the community where the picture was taken at, etc. Adding information in the description makes the picture not only apealing but informative.
Never take for granted everyone knows what type of bike you have. Tell them
Never assume everyone knows the name of geographic locations. Remember there are members from all over the world on here.
NO nudity
When posting an upgrade or a new accessory be sure to tell everyone what you did.

Videos: See above for pictures. Just remember to be patient when uploading. It takes some time to up load a video and then it takes some time before it can be viewed.
Music: Let everyone know what your favorite songs are. Uploading music is easy to do just follow the prompts and make sure it is in the proper format. i.e. mp3 etc.
Blog/Story Post: Feel free to add a post. Blog post can be about everything from motorcycles to the weather. Just keep them clean.
Message Board:
Questions: At one time or another we all have questions that need to have answered. The message board is the perfect place to post and answer questions. Be sure to look over the headings and post your question in the the appropriate catagory. You would not want to post a question about your clutch under the Questions for the IT team.
In general the message board is a great place to ask questions, give advice, check up on up coming rallies and events, post and read a few jokes, introduce yourself, etc. One can do or find just about anything on the message boards.
This should be enough to get one started on the site. This is a great site and there are a lot of great people on here. Do not be afraid to ask someone for help if needed. If you do not want to ask the question where everyone can see what you asked use the e-mail system.
If I have missed or left out anything that needs to be included in this post just add it to the comments and I will edit this post with your input.
Let's make this a living document and add/change as needed.
The most important thing to do on the site is HAVE FUN! [image]

You meet the Nicest People On a ???

For years Honda had a slogan that "You meet the nicest people on a Honda."
Well, owning a Honda I have to agree with that, but I have met some of the nicest people riding all types of bikes. Sure, every now and then one will run across a better than thou kinda person but all in all riders are great people.
I have noticed thru my years of riding that there are 3 distinct groups of riders. The first being the sports bike group. These mainly young dare devils are just plain out crazy. Now the group is not limited to the young for I have seen some wild grandpa's in the saddle of quite a few of these machines. Their need for speed is more than I can handle but the majority are always the most safety gear consious. One hardly ever sees someone on a sport bike without a helmet, jacket, pants, etc. I have noticed that most are not big talkers and hang with their close knit groups.
The Cruisers: This group of riders are mainly composed up of the weekend warrier type of rider but there are a good mix of hard core peg monkeys mixed into this group. One will find that the majority of the cruisers are friendly and will bend over backwards to help anyone, rider or not. They all are serious about thier rides and I have found that their bikes reflect their personality to a tee. I have found that although the majority of the riders in this group are top shelf people there are a few A.H.'s in here as well but they are of the minority. This group of riders are also the backbone of the social crowd. I have found that they love to ride and gather with other cruisers and one thing for sure there is going to be a lot of fun somewhere. They love to ride but many never have a route pre-planned. They love to go where ever the road leads them.
The Tour Riders are generally made up of the older experienced riders who at one time or another been either a sport bike rider or a hard core cruiser rider. They generally travel in packs and nearly always travel with their spouses. This group of riders will talk your ears off. Ever stop at a rest area where there are tour riders? The majority have been there, done that, and have the shirt and hat to prove it. They are always willing to give friendly advice and seem to be prepared for anything. If you are ever on the road and need a tool to get moving again. You can bet your bottom dollar someone in the tour group will have what you need to get rolling again.
As far as brand loyality I notice some of that but I have found that reguardless of what one rides the majority of riders are friendly, and appreciate the mutual passion and desire to ride. I have not noticed one particuliar brand of motorcycle riders that has more passion than another when it comes to being a rider.
So in closing one can say that "You meet the nicest people on motorcycles." They are willing to assist when needed. Most are friendly, but all share the thrill of being in the saddle of a bike burning up the pavement.

I had the opportunity to ride with two different groups of the Southern Cruisers this weekend.
On Saturday I rode with the River Cities Chapter #88 which supports the Greater cincinnati and Northern Ky. A great group of folks and a blast to ride with.
Sunday I rode with the East Cincinnati Chapter #309 and what a great group of folks. I had a blast.
These two groups are family oriented and both shared the passion of riding and having fun. If you get the chance to ride with a cfhapter of the Southern Cruisers do not pass up the opportunity. If you have half as much fun as I had you will not be able to contain yourself.
I am looking forward to riding with these two chapters again in the very near future. I only hope they ca put up with my weird sense of humor and desire to have big time fun.
Here is a link to their national web site if you want to check them out: http://www.southerncruisers.net/purpose.htm or http://www.southerncruisers.net/
Take care and Ride Safe

I was looking at a local biker magazine and a good ole Harley dealership has a full page ad. In a classic marketing technique they had a 7 bikes listed with only monthly payments listed for each bike. They make a big deal that no money down is required to buy a bike.
I was impressed at the low mo. pmts. so I took a second look. That is when I noticed what looked like black lines on the bottom of the page. They were not solid black lines but within these lines were the good old fine print, and I do mean fine print. After taking a few minutes digging through my desk drawer I found my magnifying glass and proceeded to give the fine print a once over.
I like to fell out of my chair. The monthly pmts were figured at full retail price which did not include tax, title etc. nothing down, and an interest rate of 8.775%, but here is the kicker. They are financing the bikes for, get ready, here it comes, hold on to your hat, 144 months. Thats right One Hundred and Fourty Four Months!!!!!! Guys and Gals that is 12 years.
I had to quickly break out the caculator and run a few numbers. In the ad there was a 2009 FLHX Street Glide for $194.00 a month. Quick math meant the bike sold for approx. $17,250. If run full term one would pay in excess of $10704.00 in interest! After paying for the bike for 5 years there is still $12,152.07 still owed on the thing. At that payment schedule one would only pay down the original loan amount a whopping $5098.00 and would have paid in excess of $11640.00 to do so.
I guess I am from another era. I am in no way a rich man but I was taught never finance a luxury item, and if I did never finance for more than 36 months. Now, I know everyone's situation is different and I understand that, but are we as consumers only concerned with the monthly payments when we finance an item?
I guess I have been out of the loop too long. No wonder our economy is in the shape it is in if all anyone cares about is the monthly payments. I guess the total picture of actual cost is not really important anymore.
144 months on a bike still amazes me. They better hope Harley retains their resale value! lol

I do not know how to begin. The past two days here in South West Ohio have been unbelivalbe weather wise. We are having what we used to call a Chamber of Commerce Day. Temperature in the low 70's Clear blue skies, and a very slight breeze with low humidity. [image]
I hope the rest of the CC Community are experiencing the same. It is not often we have this perfect riding weather so I am knocking wood and going to hit the pavment. I just had to let the rest of the community know SW Ohio is the place to be right now.
Going riding so take care and Ride Safe.

Well, I got the ole foot in the mouth on this one. I apologize for not checking out my sources prior to making a recent message board post on the CC Comunity.
I do not know what made me do it but out of the blue I decided to do a little digging and do a bit of investigating on the email I received and then posted. I did not have to look very long until I found this bit of information below.
Word of advice. Always check your sources. Doing so will prevent having to eat ones foot and it preserve your honor. of which I hold most important to me.
Again I am sorry for the false post.
Roy
I have been Duped! Sorry Pepsi...

Original Post:

Subject: DON'T BUY PEPSI IN THE NEW CAN!
Pepsi has a new 'patriotic' can coming out with pictures of the Empire State Building , and thePledge of Allegiance on them.

However, Pepsi left out two little words on the pledge, 'Under God.'Pepsi said they didn't want to offend anyone. In that case, we don'twant to offend anyone at the Pepsi corporate office, either!

RMFIII is starting to get a bit P.O. at all of the damn Political Correctness

FALSE RUMOR ALERT: PATRIOTIC CANS
You've received an erroneous email about a "patriotic can" that Pepsi allegedly produced with an edited version of America's Pledge of Allegiance. The truth is, Pepsi never produced such a can. In fact, this is a hoax that has been circulating on the Internet for more than six years. A patriotic package used in 2001 by Dr Pepper (which is not a part of PepsiCo) was inappropriately linked to Pepsi. Thanks for giving us the chance to clarify the situation and please feel free to share this message with anyone else who may have received the erroneous email. Details of the hoax can be found at http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/undergod.asp.

Sorry to Pepsi and everyone on the site and I am sorry for posting without checking out the facts.
I should have known better. [image]
Again, SORRY!

Sitting at breakfast this morning I thought I would have a little fun with my 9 year old daughter. During a quiet moment after talking about todays planned activities and the Independence Day Holiday in general I asked her, "Does the UK have a 4th of July?"
She smiled broadly and gave me that DUH, Dad look and said, "No Dad, dont you know anything? Only we have a 4th of July."
I did not say anything I just nodded then I said, "Your not listening to my question. Why don't you just think about it and get back to me later."
Well, the girl must have been thinking for she just walked down here into the bunker and quickly informed me that the UK has a 4th of July and so does every other country on the planet. She also informed me that the UK has a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of July as well. I think she got it....
Just got to keep the young ones thinking and on their toes. [image]
Happy Birthday USA

Short Trip Riding and Therapy

A recent post about low milage used bikes for sale got me thinking how easily I tend to put miles on the Ole Sabre. I do consider myself to be fortunate to be retired and have the opportunity to ride at will. I also understand that a lot of folks have limits as to the amount of riding time they can take part in and the reasons for the limits vary.
Recently I have had limits placed on me due to health reasons but somewhow I will find a way to get my tail planted in the saddle and hit the road even if for a short trip. The short trip thing is what got me thinking. What is considered a short trip? I find that I just cannot go on the shortest of rides and not put 40 to 60 miles on the bike and never ride on the same road twice.
I do not know about you but when I am on the bike just scooting around town or on the highway I am in my own little world. Troubles, stress, and issues I face daily are placed so far back on the back burner I think the slighest if any thought of them. I find riding to be great therapy if one want to call it that.
Now, in the days prior riding if I had issues, problems, thought, or concerns I used to jump in the old car or truck go for a ride and that was all I thought about. I wonder why the big difference? I also remember not putting on near as many miles on the four wheeled type of vehicles as I do on the bike.
I hope that others experience the same thrills that I do when on riding the bike and are raking up some miles on the odometer even if it is for a short time. It would be such a shame to have a bike sitting and collecting dust. Even if one is able to get out for a 30 minute ride daily can you imagine how much less stress there would be?
Someone once said that motorcycle riders know why dogs like to hang their heads out the windows when on car rides and I have to say I fully underestand the ole dogs reasoning.
Ride Safe and Have some fun.

[image]Roy's on the Soap Box Again.
This topic has been bought up many times, and I hate to beat a dead horse so I will be brief.
There are some supurb pictures being posted on the site, but many are just pictures. How about a little background, location, type, model, what modification, etc., information in the description box.
There are some great bike pictures with recent add-ons that people post but when you open the picture there is a beautiful bike, dripping with chrome, and looking great but no information as to what accessory was added, model of bike, etc. I am guess I am getting old but I cannot for the life of me keep up with all the models of bikes and it would be great to have that information to review when looking at picture.
How about the classic vacation or scenery pictures? Darn near every picture is just wonderful but few have any info as to where the picture was taken, what it is in the picture, etc. Many pictures after reviewing them are places I want to put on my "Places to visit list" but I have no idea where it is at. I don't need grid coordinates or anything like that just a brief description is all..It doesn't take much maybe give the info in the title or drop a few lines in the description box.
Help the old man out, please. I hope I did not offend anyone. This is just a request. BTW, many always put info on their postings and I want to say thank you.
Anyone wlse feel as I do or am I the only one?

The CC Community and The Barber Shop

Song writer and Country and Western Star, Toby Keith, has a song called, "I love this bar" and his sentiments for his bar are the same for me and this site. The site offers the opportunity to conveniently purchase accessories for ones ride with just a click of [image]the mouse. The information on the site is just down right invaluable if the situation arises where one needs a quick fix or in depth instruction, and the people on this site are second to none.
The CC site reminds me of yesteryear before men went to hair salons for haircuts. Most men of the day went to the local community Barber Shop. Now for those who may not remember the barber shop the barber shop was more than a place to get your hair cut.
Now, although the barber shops primary business was to cut and trim hair many other things took place in the shop. Actually very little hair cutting actually took place as I remember. It was more of a social club. Chairs lined the walls and they always seemed to have a body in them unless it was a nice day and the sun was shinning then a few would go outside and sit on the bench in front of the barber[image] shop. Folks would come to the barber shop to catch up on events in the community, tell jokes, get a few hunting and fishing tips, gossip, Tell a few fishing and hunting stories, read magazines and the local paper, give some old fashioned ribbing to each other, play cards or checkers, disseminate information from those in the know on various topics, and a lie or two may have even been told.
Heck the barber shop even sold things such as various hair tonics, combs, after shaves, a litte hair grease, and there were even a few jars of Roses Butch Wax (Remember the stuff for the front of Flat Top Cut?) on the shelf. Although the barber had wares for sale I kinda figured he did not sell too much because there was always a good layer of dust on the merchandise but the barber still had his doors open for the community and everyone had the opportunity to express their opinions and views if they choose to do so. Now there may have been a disagrement or two mind you, but they were always short lived and life continued on.
Does the barber shop kinda sound like the Cruiser Customizing site? I find a little of everything happening on this site. The topics talked about range from here to there. One cannot guess what they will find on the media post and as far as the membership goes. We got grease monkeys, techno geeks, photographers, joke tellers, story tellers, and readers. We got workers, retirees, posters, posers, greeters, Teachers, Preachers, and point chasers. We got riders, going to be riders, just became riders, builders, designers, and organizers. We got drivers, boaters, racers, truckers, Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen. We got men, women, singers, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, fathers , mothers, music writers, and music players. We got public servents, police, first responders of both genders. We got people from various walks of life and in who live in various countries. Talk about diversity we got it!
The best thing we have is the shared passion for riding and although we are all different this one thing brings us all together. That with the opportunity to be as active or inactive as we want is a big plus. We can choose to express ourselves or choose not to do so. We can post comments, pictures, videos, or we can just sit back and relax, read, or watch and take it all in. Life is good and everyone is welcome.
Sorry for getting a little long winded but I just had to state why I love this site and make a little comparison between the CC community and the Barber Shop. I hope I did not bore you to death.

The Bible Says

A man and his wife were having an argument about who should brew the coffee each morning. The wife said, "You should do it because you get up first, and then we don't have to wait as long to get our coffee. The husband said, "You are in charge of cooking around here and you should do it, because that is your job, and I can just wait for my coffee."Wife replies, "No, you should do it, and besides, it is in the Bible that the man should do the coffee."Husband replies, "I can't believe that, show me."So she fetched the Bible, and opened the New Testament and showed him at the top of several pages, that it indeed says! ..........

Ten Times Normal

The 6th grade science teacher, Mrs. Parks, asked her class, "What human body part increases to ten times its size when stimulated?" No one answered until little Mary stood up and said, "You should not be asking sixth-graders a question like that! I'm going to tell my parents, and they will go and tell the principal, who will then fire you!" Mrs. Parks ignored her and asked the question again, "Which body part increases to 10 times its size when stimulated?" Little Mary's mouth fell open. Then she said to those around her, "Boy, is she going to get in big trouble!" The teacher continued to ignore her and said to the class, "Anybody?" Finally, Billy stood up, looked around nervously, and said, "The body part that increases 10 times its size when stimulated is the pupil of the eye." Mrs. Parks said, "Very good, Billy," then turned to Mary and continued. "As for you, young lady, I have three things to say:One, you have a dirty mind. Two, you didn't read your homework. And three, one day you are going to be very, very disappointed."

A drunk man who smelled like booze sat down on a bench next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading. After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked, 'Say Father, what causes arthritis?' The priest replies, 'My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol, contempt for your fellow man, sleeping around with prostitutes and lack of a bath.' The drunk muttered in response, 'Well, I'll be damned,' then returned to his paper. The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. 'I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis? The drunk answered, 'I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does.

A nice, calm and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, walked up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, 'I would like to buy some cyanide.' The pharmacist asked, 'Why in the world do you need cyanide?' The lady replied, 'I need it to poison my husband.' The pharmacist's eyes got big and he exclaimed, 'Lord have mercy! I can't give you cyanide to kill your husband. That's against the law! I'll lose my license! They'll throw both of us in jail! All kinds of bad things will happen. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide!' The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist's wife. The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied, 'Well now, that's different..... You didn't tell me you had a prescription.'

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah". The teacher asked, " What if Jonah went to hell?" The little girl replied, "Then you ask him."

Dr's Orders

Well, for the second time in a week I had to be hauled to the E.R.. ( I call it the Spa because they take such good care of me while I am there and it is a VA hospital as well) It seems that my cardiac and resportory issues are not liking the hot Humid weather here in South West Ohio.
This last trip was this morning and the doctor finally said no more riding the bike in this kinda weather. I felt like a ton of bricks were dropped on me when he said that. Anyway, I asked the doc what about night riding when the temperature is a bit cooler. He said to go ahead and try it and if you ride make it short local rides but if I have any trouble I will have to park the bike all together for a while.
Whew, what a relief it was to hear him say that. I have no problem riding at night and to be honest I quite enjoy it. The sad thing is many palces are closed and a lot of my friends are hitting the sheets getting ready for the next day at work. I guess I will just have to be the lone wolf on the roads at night by myself. I guess the miles being put on the odometer will not be as much as I had planned for this summer and long roadtrips are out for a while. What a bummer.
I guess I could be like Kyle and totally disreguard what the doc says[image] but you know, that breathing and living thing is kinda high on my priority list.
Take care and maybe I will see you out and about one night.
Ride Safe

Horsie Ride

Little Johnny is passing his parents' bedroom in the middle of the night, in search of a glass of water. Hearing a lot of moaning and thumping, he peeks in and catches his folks in 'the act'. Before dad can even react, Little Johnny exclaims "Oh, boy! Horsie ride! Daddy, can I ride on your back?" Daddy, relieved that Johnny's not asking more uncomfortable questions, and seeing the opportunity not to break his stride, agrees. Johnny hops on and daddy starts going to town. Pretty soon mommy starts moaning and gasping. Johnny cries out "Hang on tight, Daddy! This is the part where me and the milkman usually get bucked off!"

Into a belfast pub comes Paddy Murphy looking like he'd just been run over by a train. His arm is in a sling, his nose is broken, his face is cut and bruised and he is walking with a limp. "What happend to you? asks Sean the bartender. "Jamie O Conner and me had a fight." says Paddy. "That little sh*t, O Conner " says Sean "He couldnt do that to you, he must of had something in his hand." "That he did. says Paddy ''a shovel is what he had, and a terrible licken he gave me with it" "Well'' says Sean, "you should have defended yourself, didnt you have something in your hand?" ''That I did'' said Paddy..."Mrs. O Conner's breast, and a thing of beauty it was, but useless in a fight."

Bank Teller

This guy walks into a bank and says to the teller at the window, "I want to open a freakin' checking account." To which the lady replied, "I beg your pardon, what did you say?" "Listen up dammit, I said I want to open a freakin' checking account right now." "Sir, I'm sorry but we do not tolerate that kind of language in this bank!" The teller left the window and went over to the bank manager and told him about her situation. They both returned and the manager asked, "What seems to be the problem here?" "There's no damn problem," the man says, "I just won $50 million in the lottery and I want to open a freakin checking account in this damn bank!" "I see sir," the manager said, "and this bitch is giving you a hard time?"

How Do You Unlock A Door?

John and Jill were about to go into his apartment and before he could open his door, Jill said, "Wait a minute, I can tell how a man makes love by how he unlocks his door." John says, "Well, give me some examples." Jill proceeds to tell him, "Well, the first way is, if a guy shoves his key in the lock, and opens the door hard, then that means he is a rough lover and that isn't for me. "The second way is if a man fumbles around and can't seem to find the hole, then that means he is inexperienced and that isn't for me either." Then Jill said, "Honey, how do you unlock your door?" John proceeds to say, "Well, first before I do anything else........ I lick the lock."
